Bedding industry veteran Edwin Shoffner leverages his more than 30 years of experience in marketing, mattress retail, and sales management in his current role as the president of Mattress by Appointment in Greenville, South Carolina. In his leisure time, Edwin Shoffner enjoys scuba diving and holds an Advanced Open Water Diver certification from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).

Once a diver earns their Open Water Diver Certification, they can complete dives to earn the advanced version. Divers must be at least 12 years old to enroll in the Advanced Open Water Diver course. Through the course, divers will become more comfortable diving in different environments and using more specialized skills.

Working with an instructor, those seeking advanced certification must complete five dives. They can select them from a number of dives that are known as “Adventure Dives” in the PADI parlance. One must be a deep dive, while the other must focus on underwater navigation. Outside of these two required dives, divers can choose dives geared toward underwater photography, identifying marine wildlife, exploring underwater shipwrecks, and other special skills based on their particular interest.
