The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is the international training organization that is responsible for certifying scuba divers at multiple levels and in a range of specialized areas. Members of this organization have described the PADI Rescue Diver course as the most challenging and rewarding scuba diving course currently available.

The course is designed to help participants prevent underwater problems before they start, as well as to mount rescue attempts for divers in distress. The PADI Rescue Diver course is open to any PADI-certified adult diver and any PADI (Junior) Adventure Diver who is more than 11 years old and has completed the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive. PADI Rescue Diver candidates must also have completed official CPR and first aid training within the past two years.

Some of the specific skills taught in the PADI Rescue Diver course include recognizing and managing the stress levels of other divers, managing emergency equipment and procedures, as well as rescuing panicked or unresponsive divers.
